Satellite Imagery and Earth Observations

Imagine you could have eyes on every asset, project, or piece of land you own or look after? Whether you are a farmer, a miner, a first responder, an academic, or a government regulator, you could have up-to-date information on whatever you were interested in, wherever you are, and whenever you wanted. The increased intelligence, the enhanced operational control, and efficiency and productivity gains for every organisation is enormous.

Earth observations (EO) provide these eyes in the sky. Such data is an important driver for science and economic development around the world and although there are many forms of EO technologies (e.g. drones), the one that gets the most investment is EO from space via the use of satellites. There are currently thousands of operational satellites in orbit and around 40% of these are being used for EO purposes.

EO satellites were traditionally very large pieces of equipment that we could only afford to launch infrequently. These days there are clouds of nanosatellites provided by Planet the size of a shoebox orbiting the earth and taking aerial photography quality images of the earth.

Planet captures daily imagery of Earth to make global changes visible, accessible and actionable, delivered through an API and online platform, for a wide range of industries, including:

  • Public Sector
  • Environmental and Carbon Accounting
  • Agriculture
  • Financial ServicesUtilities
  • Mining
  • Oil and Gas

To help your organizations make sense of the satellite imagery data, NGIS uses Google’s planetary-scale platform for Earth science data and analysis, Google Earth Engine. Google Earth Engine not only combines Planet data with your data, but also a a multi-petabyte catalog of satellite imagery and geospatial datasets. NGIS is recognised as a leader in earth observation using Google Earth Engine and can apply our skills and applications to detect changes, map trends, and quantify differences on the Earth’s surface.

NGIS are partners of Planet and can help you understand, procure and implement planet data.

NGIS are premier partners of Google and can help you solve your business and sustainability challenges using earth observation technologies and data.
